# Adega Mãe - One of the Best Wineries Near Lisbon

Just a few minutes from Lisbon, there is [Adega Mãe](https://www.winetourismportugal.com/en/catalogue/wineries-vineyards/adega-mae/), a modern winery born of an old passion that has always existed within the Riberalves Group: the wine. The Group, recognized by the trade and processing of codfish, is now also in the wine business after the purchase of a 40 hectares property in Torres Vedras, 35 hectares of which covered in vineyards, where both reds and whites are cultivated.

Named after the matriarch of the family (its name stands for *Mother Winery*), Adega Mãe invites you to live the passion for the wine in an innovative infrastructure, from every point of view: architectural and technological.
The main structure, where the winery and wine cellar are located, is a beautifully designed building with modern lines but perfectly inserted in the landscape, with a fantastic view from the balcony, where guests can enjoy the wines produced at Adega Mãe.

The winery at Adega Mãe may be considered the winery of the future, equipped with the most advanced technology for an optimal production. When visiting the Adega Mãe you are able to see the white and red wine presses, the grandeur of the storage and fermentation tanks and peek into the laboratory.

## Wine Tours at Adega Mãe
As far as wine tourism in concerned, we talked with **Diogo Lourenço**, the **tour guide at Adega Mãe**, that told us that the guided tours with wine tasting are the most searched-for experiences in the estate.
Among many others, at Adega Mãe you can choose the **Terroir Tour**, which includes a[guided tour to Adega Mãe](https://www.winetourismportugal.com/en/catalogue/wineries-vineyards/adega-mae/), a presentation of the corporate videos about the concept and production of the wines and the tasting of three wines: Dory Red Harvest, Dory White Harvest and Dory Red Reserve.

Here you can have visitors from all nationalities, being the most common from Brazil, Belgium, France, Ireland, Sweden, Portugal and the USA. According to Diogo Lourenço, the main question of the visitors at Adega Mãe are about the wine varietals produced in the winery. At Adega Mãe, 50% of the vineyards are cultivated with white varieties like Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Arinto, Viosinho, Viognier, Riesling and Alvarinho and the other half has red varieties: Aragonez, Caladoc, Alicante Bouschet and Syrah.
When asked about **what makes Adega Mãe so special**, Diogo Lourenço refers the affection, the tour customization for every group or visit and the exclusivity of the service.

## The Enologists Team
The Enologists at Adega Mãe - Anselmo Mendes and Diogo Lopes - share the same passion for the wine making process, making the perfect team. They are both graduated in Agronomy by the Institute of Agronomy and postgraduates in Oenology by the Portuguese Catholic University, working together since 2004 in different projects regarding the Portuguese wine.

At the end of each tour guests can visit the wine shop, where normally the wine tasting is held, a place where you can buy the products produced at Adega Mãe, as well as a full range of accessories related to the world of wine.
