Quinta do Vallado was built in 1716 and is one of the oldest and most notorious vineyards in the Douro Valley. It belonged to Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira and remains in the possession of her descendants until nowadays. This estate has a building dated from the 18th century and a design building, where you can stay in both. Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo is a place of incredible beauty and is owned by the Amorim family since 1999. With a history of more than 250 years, this estate exhibits a preserved eighteenth-century manor house with the chapel, dated 1765, and the original 1764 winery building, which had interventions by the architect Arnaldo Barbosa. In the past, it has been owned by the Portuguese Royal House until 1725. Besides, during the 18th and 19th centuries, several Portuguese families lived there and gave life to the vineyards, to the fruit orchards and to the watermill next to the old olive grove. With a unique setting facing the Douro River, the eleven rooms of the estate offer views over the century-old vineyard terraces, a literally breathtaking landscape setting. Quinta das Carvalhas is a 600-hectare property and is considered the crown jewel of the oldest and most emblematic wine company in Portugal - Real Companhia Velha. Dating back to 1759, a large part of its vineyards has a respectable age of hundred years, representing one of the richest and most varied collections of ancient Douro grape varieties. The property since the '80s has been reconverting its vineyards, respecting the particularities of mountain viticulture, following the trends and technological evolution in modern viticulture, all of these processes convert into the fantastic and delicious wines. The first known records of Quinta do Crasto and its wine production date back to 1615 and this was subsequently included in the first Feitoria, together with the most important Quintas in the Douro. Between 1758 and 1761, Marquês de Pombal had 335 landmarks installed in the Douro - granite stones two meters high, 30 centimeters wide, and 20 centimeters thick - to delimit what would be the first demarcated wine region in the world. A Pombaline landmark, dated 1758, can be seen at Quinta do Crasto next to the centenary house. In the 135 hectare property, 74 of which are occupied by vineyards. With a unique situation, right on top of the Douro River, is located the famous swimming pool designed by the architect Eduardo Souto de Moura, which has been the subject of many visits and reports in national and international media over the last years. Quinta de Ventozelo is one of the largest and most ancient properties of the Douro region, in which its origins go back to the early XIX century. The emblematic state opens its doors to wine tourism with an Interpretation Centre, tastings and visits to the vineyard, a shop, a grocery store, a restaurant, and 29 elegant rooms, filled with simplicity. Besides the original Balloons (there are two), which was once used for wine storage, there is also Casa do Feitor, Casa do Laranjal, Casa Romântica, Cardanhos, Casa Grande and Casa do Rio, all very distinct and with different services but all stunning and beautiful. Also, the property has 400 hectares, in which part are 200 of vineyards, 150 of protected Mediterranean forest - where wildlife lives, 20 of olive trees.
