Recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site since 2001, the Douro Valley is the oldest wine-demarcated region in the world, stretching across more than 40,000 hectares of terraced vineyards. This is the most complete way to experience the Douro without an overnight stay, combining a private driver, a wine estate visit, and a cruise on the river itself.
Your driver picks you up in Porto or at the airport and takes you to Quinta da Pacheca, one of the Douro's best-known estates and the first to bottle wine under its own brand, dating back to 1738. A guided visit covers the estate's history and winemaking process, followed by a tasting and lunch at its restaurant, known for traditional Portuguese cuisine with a view over the vine terraces.

The day closes with a two-hour sailing cruise on the Douro, tasting Port wine as you take in the terraced hillsides, before your driver takes you back to Porto.
Unforgettable Moments:
For travelers who want the Douro's best views without getting behind the wheel, the train follows the river the entire way from Porto to Pinhão. The journey starts at São Bento Railway Station, widely considered one of the most beautiful train stations in the world, known for its roughly 20,000 hand-painted "azulejo" tiles depicting scenes from Portuguese history.

From there, the train follows the river to Pinhão, a short walk from Quinta do Bomfim, named one of the "50 must-see wineries in the world" by the International Wine Challenge. A guided tour and tasting reveal a winemaking history run by five generations of the Symington family.
Lunch is a relaxed picnic at Eco House, overlooking the terraced vineyards. Afterward, a one-hour cruise aboard a traditional Rabelo boat runs between Pinhão and Quinta da Romaneira, before the train back to Porto.
