The latest Michelin Guide 2024 has brought culinary acclaim to Portugal, with the announcement of four new-starred restaurants. Among them, Antiqvvm in Porto secured its second Michelin star, joining the exclusive list of establishments recognized for 'excellent cuisine, worth the detour.'

The four newly awarded one-star restaurants are 2Monkeys (Vítor Matos and Francisco Quintas, Lisbon), Desarma (Octávio Freitas, Funchal), Ó Balcão (Rodrigo Castelo, Santarém), and Sála (João Sá, Lisbon). These establishments join the ranks of high-standard culinary experiences that 'pay to stop,' bringing the total number of one-starred restaurants in this year's guide to 31.

There are also two more restaurants with a green star, which reflects their commitment to more sustainable gastronomy: Malhadinha Nova, by João Sousa, in Albernoa, and Ó Balcão, by Rui Castelo, in Santarém. As for the two Michelin stars, all the restaurants that received the two stars in the last edition will retain the distinction this year.

The first gala of the Portuguese Michelin Guide also included three special awards: the Young Chef Award went to Rita Magro, resident chef at Blind, under the tutelage of Vitor Matos; the Best Sommelier Award went to Leonel Nunes, sommelier at Il Gallo d'Oro, in Funchal, with two stars; and the Room Award went to Pedro Marques, head chef at Yeatman, in Vila Nova de Gaia, with two stars.

Additionally, eight new Bib Gourmand restaurants were announced, showcasing good value for money, with dishes priced around 45 euros. Additionally, the guide recommends 21 more establishments, further enriching the culinary landscape in Portugal."

In all, there are 31 gastronomic projects with a Michelin star in Portugal, the same number as last year. Vistas, in Vila Nova de Cacela, which announced the departure of Rui Silvestre at the end of last year and who took over the kitchen at Fifty Seconds, Eneko, in Lisbon, and Largo do Paço, in Porto, both lost their stars due to closure.
