The Wonders of World of Wine | Wine Tourism in Portugal

Written by Soraia Costa | 22-Dec-2020 13:23:55

On the riverside slope of Vila Nova de Gaia, where Porto wine used to be stored, there are now museums, restaurants, and stores. It is the World of Wine, the new cultural block of Porto city.

Now when visiting Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia, you also need to visit the incredible World of Wine - WOW (here are five museums, eight restaurants and cafes, an exhibition space and several spaces for events). Owned, designed and projected by The Fladgate Partnership, the group that owns Port wine brands such as Taylor's, Fonseca and Croft and hotels such as The Yeatman, Infante de Sagres, and Vintage House, has reconverted the old Port wine warehouses that belong to the group and in which occupied a considerable spot on the slope of the historical center of Vila Nova de Gaia, wanted to respect the architectural design.

As we walk through the maze of accesses and buildings, you will feel that your inside of a new city, is simply inevitable. This magnificent and gigantic project with thousand square meters of total area, without obstacles to the circulation of people, since the streets have a direct connection to the rest of the riverside area. Moreover, this brilliant project was also designed to draw attention to what is best done in northern Portugal, like the wine and cork, textile industry, and fashion, and of course, it came to strengthening the cultural and museum offer of the region. Let's unveil all of its wonders.

The "Secrets" of Wine, from Chocolate to The Bridge Collection

In the fantastic Wine Experience, the wine will be demystified and it will be possible to learn more about its main agents: the soil, the climate, the grapes, but also about all the processes that interfere with the quality of the wine until it reaches the glass, to the wine styles that exist, what differentiates them, how to taste and how to enjoy.

In Porto Region Across The Ages you can get to know the times and the setbacks, the conquests, and the wars of Porto. The purpose of this space, the responsible one highlights, is to understand the character of Invicta and its people.

The Chocolate Story, as its name indicates, is a delicious journey, in the globe and in time, from the cocoa plant to the chocolate. The proposal is to get to know its history, watch the transformation process - in a real chocolate factory - and, finally, delight yourself in the Twenty Twenty Coffee.

The Bridge Collection, a private collection of Adrian Bridge's family, is considered of "undoubted value and worldwide interest. "It is about more than 1,500 cups and glasses that tell the history of humanity through the ritual of the drink. Each glass tells a story and it will be possible to go back to the year 7000 B.C.", says the owner.

The remaining experiences, Planet Cork and Porto Fashion & Fabric Museum, the Wine School, are other must-see experiences that will enchant you and your knowledge.

Gastronomic Offer for all Tastes and Styles

The bet of the amazing World of Wine is a diversified gastronomic offer that covers all tastes and styles.
The highlight goes to the restaurant 1828, date that marks the beginning of the Portuguese Civil War and is a tribute to the adversities overcome by the Portugese. Therefore, the strength of victory and innovation inspire each dish. In the menu, fine cuisine reconciles with contemporary.

At Angel's Share, the menu has about 50 references of wine to drink by bottle or glass. Highlight goes to the covered terrace that overlooks the unbelievable view of the Douro River. It is, therefore, the perfect place to apply the knowledge acquired in the Wine Experience.

Root & Vine is a vegetarian restaurant where the quality of the ingredients is privileged, resulting in a tasty palette of colors and flavors.

The Golden Catch, a fish restaurant, takes advantage of the enormous Portuguese coast, which brings together the precious sea and land in dishes full of flavor.

In the VP, the flavors are genuinely Portuguese and the dishes promise to comfort the stomach. Besides the large indoor room, it offers an outdoor terrace with a privileged view.

Suspiro is a coffee shop and a dessert house, a space where you can choose between traditional Portuguese sweets and the eccentricity of French pastry.

Finally, in the Vinte Vinte the concept is "here it's made, here it's tasted", since here the best chocolate products produced at The Chocolate Story factory are available.
