But keep reading to know more about this authentic restaurant.
The Casa dos Ecos at Quinta do Bomfim, is located in the heart of the Douro Valley on a high point surrounded by vineyards and overlooking the Douro River. The property is one of the family's most iconic estates, famous for producing the Dow's Ports and where five generations of Symingtons have worked the vines.
Some curiosities about the Symington family are that nowadays there are still ten family members working across the business, committed to producing the finest ports and wines and building on the achievements of the previous generations. The vineyards of the family are managed under a strict minimum intervention policy and 112 ha are organic, which makes them the largest area of certified organic vineyard in northern Portugal. It's simply amazing!
Besides, their ports and wines consistently win major international wine awards. They are the producers of the only port made this century to score 100 points in the Wine Spectator: Dow’s 2007 Vintage Port. Dow’s 2011 Vintage Port scored an exceptional 99 points in the Wine Spectator in 2014 and was placed at No.1 in the prestigious Top 100 Wines. Chryseia 2011 was placed at No.3 in the same year, the highest-ever ranking for Portuguese red wine, and Chryseia has now appeared on the list three times. As you have already understood the Quinta do Bomfim is one of the Douro estates that is worth your visit.
The restaurant is considered a 'pop-up' in which it aims to create a unique space for people to enjoy the authentic Douro culture in a relaxed setting. The space of the restaurant allows serving 60 people, between the living room and the terrace. Further, their delicious menu will be composed of the idea of 'farmhouse gastronomy'.
But what does the idea of 'farmhouse gastronomy'? It consists of offering authentic and regional dishes based on informal cuisine from the Douro region, using traditional techniques, including cooking in a firewood oven.
Moreover, the menu will be paired with Douro DOC wines and Port wines from the Symington family's portfolio.
Chef Pedro Lemos uses local products to prepare the fantastic menu of Casa dos Ecos. Last year, the menu was constantly updated during the restaurant's months of activity, through summer and fall, including the harvest season. This year and to celebrate their second year, they have created an exciting 'Programa da Liberdade' with a series of events & tastings to be hosted at Casa dos Ecos. So visit this amazing restaurant and enjoy as well discover this fantastic program.
