The Accommodation and Its Surroundings

The Quinta is composed of eleven rooms in the old manor house - three of which have access to a private terrace - you will look out over the waters of the Douro and the beauty of the vineyards, which seem to be drawn with a ruler and set square, with the grapes waiting for the right moment to be picked.

Despite all the comfort inside, with various rooms and a wine bar, it's outside that you want to be - whether it's taking a dip in the pool overlooking the vineyards, or visiting the many things to see on this estate, like the 1795 chapel with its doors always open.

The Wine Experiences

The 250-year-old estate, which has been owned by the Amorim family since 1999, was a pioneer in wine tourism in the region and has put the world's largest cork-producing company into tourism and the production of mostly still wines (only 10% are port).

When visiting the winery, one of the oldest in the Douro wine region (1764), you will pass through the Wine Studio, as they call it - where the grapes are transformed into nectars such as Pomares, Grainha, or Mirabilis.

After you can visit the Wine Museum which, since last year, has been showing the public a unique collection, assembled by Fernanda Ramos Amorim, telling in detail the history of port wine production since the 19th century.

You will also visit the historic room which houses the entire Quinta Nova wine portfolio, the Hungarian and French oak barrels and end your visit in the store.

With a superb view of the vineyards and the river waters flowing in the background, this is where the commented tastings take place.

Douro Gastronomy and a Wine Boat Trip

As you already learned the estate has a lot to offer inside the area while also enjoying a very relaxing accommodation. One of the top experiences that you should have time for is the wine boat trip. It is normally a two-hour trip in which is combined the river and wine. 

Further enjoy at night the sound of the cicadas that can be heard around here while dining on the patio of the house, especially during the summer, where meals are served at the Conceitus wine restaurant.

Chef André Carvalho, born and raised in the Douro, offers incredible tasting menus that are prepared with produce from Quinta's vegetable garden.
