The awards, published by Travel + Leisure, are known for being one of the most influential awards in travel, voted on by the magazine's dedicated audience of luxury travelers. The awards seek to recognize and commend a resort's ongoing commitment to superlative service, quality, and guest satisfaction. For this 28th edition of the awards, hundreds of thousands of reader votes were cast through an extensive survey that was open from October 24, 2022, to February 27, 2023.
Travel + Leisure's World Best Awards 2023 considered two resorts in Portugal as the best in the Iberian Peninsula, with the first place in the ranking going to Finca Cortesin Hotel Golf & Spa in Malaga.
The Six Senses Douro Valley in Lamego and Vila Vita Parc in Porches are in the top 3 of the best resorts in Spain and Portugal, in the annual survey "World's Best Awards 2023" carried out by Travel + Leisure (T + L), a North American travel magazine.
According to Kurt Gillig, General Manager of Vila Vita Parc, "We were very pleased and proud to be recognized by this year's Travel + Leisure awards and to have been voted among the top three for Spain and Portugal. Almost 165,000 T+L readers completed the 2023 survey, an increase of nearly 25% from pre-pandemic voting levels. A total of more than 685,000 votes were cast on over 8,000 properties (hotels, cities, cruise lines, etc.). These awards are known to be one of the most influential awards in travel, voted for by the magazine's dedicated audience of luxury travelers.
Hotels were classified as a resort hotel, city hotel, or safari lodge based on their location and amenities, and were specifically ranked according to the criteria of location, services, food, and price.
